Heart By Heart Official Website

In 2013, bassist Steve Fossen and drummer Michael Derosier were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as original members of Heart. That 70's-era lineup brought to the world the massive radio hits Magic Man, Crazy On You, Dreamboat Annie,  Barracuda, Kick It Out, Heartless, Straight On, Dog & Butterfly, Even It Up and much more.

Now Fossen and Derosier are back together with HEART BY HEART, a new band featuring powerhouse vocalist Somar Macek and multi-talented guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Lizzy Daymont. Honoring the magic and power of the music of Heart, this incredible lineup considers it their responsibility to bring the songs to the stage in their original form. According to Fossen, “We don’t see it as our task to modify or update these classic tunes that Heart fans love and have listened to all these years.” After every show, fans express their appreciation for HEART BY HEART's ability to bring back the memories by playing the songs as written and recorded. Having Mike and Steve on stage gives HEART BY HEART an authenticity no Heart Tribute can match.

Read the story of Heart

Heart fans know that the story of the band Heart is a love story, a story of art and passion, of losing and finding your way. It’s the story of amazing talent coming together and breaking new ground with a unique sound. Its the story of the breakup of that original group, an amazing comeback, and a second generation of hits and even greater success. It’s also the story of women succeeding in a mostly male genre. Ann and Nancy Wilson are the stars of that story, and they are amongst the greatest rockers of 2 generations.

After selling millions of albums and 7 years recording and touring during Heart’s Classic Rock heyday, the band came to a parting of the ways with much of its original lineup. It’s a long tale, full of classic rock and roll stories and personal struggles and growth. Much of the story is well told in the Charles R Cross Heart biography “Kicking & Dreaming: A Story of Heart, Soul, and Rock & Roll”. http://www.amazon.com/Kicking-Dreaming-Story-Heart-Soul/dp/0062101676

That story is still going on.

Heart with Ann and Nancy have toured and evolved over the years with many great players and with much success. Ever wonder what happened to the guys who were also Rock Stars? They continue to Rock, of course.
Around 1990 Steve Fossen and Mike Derosier, together with Heart lead guitarist Roger Fisher played in Alias, their album went gold and the hit “More Than Words Can Say” was a #1 single in Canada and #2 in the US. The band toured with REO Speedwagon, and appeared twice on the Tonight Show, once with Johnny Carson and once with Jay Leno. Roger Fisher just this year released a solo album with plans to tour his original material. Howard Leese, who played with Heart the longest (for 22 years), now tours with Paul Rodgers and Bad Company and is currently performing with Raiding the Rock Vault in Las Vegas.

Heart Reunites at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

When Heart was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013, all 6 original members reunited on stage to perform. Ann and Nancy Wilson, Roger Fisher and Howard Leese on guitars, and Steve Fossen and Mike Derosier laying down the rhythm. That was a class act thing to do, considering how many groups refuse to give the fans and each other that moment of gratitude and celebration. Heart also played with a veritable who’s who of Seattle rockers, and their current line up. Seattle is known for its camaraderie amongst artists, and Ann and Nancy celebrated the honor of being inducted in a historic way.
Watch the video and you’ll notice Heart by Heart’s Steve Fossen on bass, Mike Derosier on drums.

The Story of Heart By Heart

The story of Heart By Heart must begin with the formation and success of the band Heart from the early 1970s to the early 1980s.   Co-founding member and bassist Steve Fossen, together with drummer Mike Derosier and the rest of the group, wrote and performed hits such as Magic Man, Barracuda and Crazy On You.  They continued performing for millions of fans across the globe until the lineup’s eventual disbandment in 1982.
Fast-forward to 2008 when Steve Fossen met vocalist Somar Macek.  Romance stirred and the two began playing Heart songs together; bass and vocals, side by side, heart by heart.  Blatant talent coupled with an extensive inventory of songs made forming the new band an easy and exciting decision.
Like Steve, Mike Derosier had turned down many previous opportunities to perform Heart songs with a new band.  He agreed, however, to join his former bandmate in Heart By Heart on the condition that it was ‘done right’.  And done right it was…
Seattle guitar legend Randy Hansen joined the group, bringing his Hendrix-esque showmanship and skill to the stage.  The band, sometimes joined by various other Seattle musicians, played local fairs, gigs and small events to much acclaim.
When Heart (including Steve and Mike) was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013, Heart By Heart was fast-becoming a Seattle success story of its own.
Multi-instrumentalist Lizzy Daymont joined the band as a guitar player and backup vocalist.  The value of bringing another talented female to the group was immediately apparent.  Additionally, Bob Rivers – veteran radio talk-show host and certified-gold recording artist – rounded out Heart By Heart’s sound with the implementation of keyboards.
Today, Heart By Heart plays shows all over the Pacific Northwest.  From fairs and festivals to casino ballrooms, corporate events and more, fans delight in hearing their favorite ’70s and ’80s Heart tunes performed just as they remember them.
As for the future of Heart By Heart, the band plans to go on tour in 2015.
